Please support!

The Rainbow Defense Fund seeks to raise funds for the bond release of LGBTQ detainees in immigration detention centers in Florence, Arizona.

Currently, we have two friends that have received a bond, that if they are paid, they can be released! WE NEED YOUR SUPPORT.

Vanessa Martinez
“Hello, my name is Vanessa Martinez. I am from Honduras. I have been in immigration detention for 2 years now. I am a 40 year-old transgender (male to female) loving and sensible person. I had a harsh childhood that included living in poverty, not knowing my mother until I was 14 years-old, not attending school, and facing discrimination and aggression due to my transgender identity. I also have a serious medical condition; I was diagnosed with diabetes. Getting deported to Honduras could mean a death sentence for me since I do not have access to medical treatment there. My dream is to open a home for homeless children and the elderly, so that no child or elder ever have to go through what I have endured. I was recently granted a bond hearing, and the judge gave me a $7,500 bond. If I pay this I can be free from detention. Hopefully, you are able to spread the word. Thank you!”

Karla Salazar
Karla is a fabulous, funny and sweet transgender youth from El Salvador. She dreams of living, working, and studying in the United States. Karla is detained in the Florence Detention Center. Since Karla is transgender, she is more vulnerable and marginalized at the men’s facility where she is currently detained in. She has applied for political asylum on the basis of persecution due to her sexual orientation.
The good news is a judge granted her a bond for $4,500. Her friend from New York has fundraised $2,000—all Karla needs is $2,500 to be released while her asylum case is pending.
This is where we need your support!

Please take action and donate funds to have Vanessa and Karla released from detention. They must pay their bond as soon as possible or risk prolonged detention. Your support will directly contribute to having two people no longer exposed to the systematic abuses LGBTQ prisoners face in immigration detention.
